4 Things I did to enjoy the Holidays on my Weight Loss Journey

1. Finding Alternatives to Holidays Foods

Find alternate meals and recipes that make you not feel like you’re “dieting” is so crucial.
Maybe you’re craving cheesecake or those cinnamon buns…if you know yourself well enough that you cannot control yourself with these foods, then find alternative recipes that will fix that craving.

2. Not Allowing the Scale to Control the Holidays

Stepping on the scale right after a heavy holiday meal, in most cases, can play with your emotions.
Allowing that to control your emotions is a roller coaster ride.
Remember, if you’re up 5 lbs overnight, even if it was extremely heavy calories, there is a lot of water retention that takes place. You didn’t lose all your weight overnight, and you won’t lose it overnight either.

3. Maintain your Habits during the Holidays

If you work out 5 days a week, then continue doing that wherever you are, even if it’s modified and shorter to fit your time frames.
If you eat mindfully throughout the year and have goals to reach, then don’t throw that all away with vacations.
Find some structure on vacation, even if you maintain the same breakfast and snack meal. This will then allow you to still enjoy the other meals, but add more accountability to your choices.

4. Enjoy Yourself without going into a Spiral

Find your balance between enjoying the holiday foods, and staying on track with plans you know work well for you.
There is not reason that a dinner out needs to turn into breakfast lunch and dinner the next day or even week.
The more you learn to enjoy yourself, but get right back into your rhythm, you’ll be empowered and if you can do it through the holidays, you can do it any time!
