5 Mistakes I Made on my Weight Loss Journey
1. Fixation on Calories
Focused on Tracking every Macro and Measurement for too long created an unhealthy relationship with numbers
THE FIX: Using myfitnesspal app and getting a food scale allowed me to learn serving sizes which helped me transition to the `handful method’ where I stopped fixating on the number.
2. Over-Eating Under-Eating Cycle
Skipping meals and restricting the following days after a binge only led to another binge shortly
THE FIX: Avoid skipping meals – get right back into the plan. Identify the foods that you were missing and start to work those into the plans to not feeling ‘deprived’ that would lead to less bingeing and a better relationship with food
3. Over Complicated Recipes
There were so many recipes online that were healthy, but they took hours to make. THE FIX: Finding easy meals that kept me satisfied was crucial
Identifying what I enjoyed most, and then making minor changes to those recipes (using less ingredients) made the meals easier to make and kept me satisfied
4. Inconsistent Meal Timings
Erratic meal timings stopped me from identifying what were my true hunger levels and energy levels.
THE FIX: Set up a meal plan with timings that work best with your schedules and a different set up for the weekends Identify exactly what was going on with your hunger, energy and digestion and the weight loss followed that.
5. Lacking Knowledge on Nutrition
Poor nutrition knowledge led me to use ineffective diet options and left me guessing
THE FIX: Understanding the science behind nutrition will help create the best layout for your nutrition. Dr. Layne Norton & Eric Helms were two major sources I utilized for science based applicable nutrition.
