Jodi reached out for Hands on Guidance with one mission in mind: overcome her struggle with anorexia. Gaining weight would not just be a difficult task, but understanding that it was imperative to her health helped fuel our work together.
Today Jodi has put on five healthy pounds and her journey to optimal health continues!
Vicious Cycle of Undereating
As a single mother, Jodi struggled to find herself worth and fell into a vicious cycle of under eating and over exercising which diminished her health. The cycle of under eating continued. Soothing heartache with alcohol instead of food was another issue that she desperately wanted to combat.
The Solution
- Anorexia and feeling that she will never being thin enough
When it comes to working with anorexia, introducing more food in a very strategic way is the goal. If the food is introduced too fast, the fear of gaining weight becomes all-consuming and impossible to break the cycle of under-eating.
- Under-Eating cycles Jodi was fearful of gaining weight, so she would under-eat and over exercise constantly to ensure weight gain didn’t occur
We started to introduce more food and slowly taper down on the exercise. This created a slow process of weight regain but at a rate that did not scare Jodi into falling right back into the cycle.
- Breaking the cycle of the alcohol.
I could identify with Jodi or wanting to forget about past pain or current problems by escaping with the alcohol. We worked intensely on being transparent so that guilt and shame didn’t lead to staying in the dark.
Today Jodi continues to battle both the fear of gaining and the destructive escapes and I am happy I was able to play my part in her victory.
